How we equipped Northern Nigerian filmmakers to make an impact

We are excited to share with you the impact we have made this February through our various impact activities.

How we equipped Northern Nigerian filmmakers to make an impact

The month was filled with intense emotional energy as we embarked on our Film For Impact Fellowship, Northern Nigeria. This ground-breaking training involved equipping Northern filmmakers with skills and resources to create films that will drive positive impact and social change in their communities.

Thanks to the support of the United States Embassy, we were able to conduct 3 weeks of online training with seasoned professionals, followed by 3 days of intensive training at the American Spaces Abuja and Film For Impact Headquarters Abuja. The experience was electrifying, with participants showing great enthusiasm and passion for film as a tool for change.

Breaking down religious barriers through the power of film

The thematic premise for the two films to be made after the training is Religious Tolerance. This was a topic that sparked a lot of emotions and opinions during the training. We had filmmakers from different religious backgrounds who shared their experiences and biases. It was a charged atmosphere, but we were able to create a safe space for dialogue and resolution. It was amazing to witness how the participants learned to respect and appreciate each other’s beliefs, and they were able to channel this understanding into their films.

We are thrilled to announce that the Pre-Production for the two films will commence in the first week of March, and production proper will kick off later that month. We can’t wait to see the impact that these films will have on the Northern Nigerian communities.

IF I AM PRESIDENT: The impact film that moved a Nation and Inspired Civic Engagement

In addition, we are excited to share the success of our impact film, IF I AM PRESIDENT, which premiered in three major Nigerian languages. The film galvanized citizens to vote in the February Presidential Elections, and we are proud to have played a part in promoting civic engagement. Worthy of note is the thousands of comments across social media on the prophetic nature of the film as many of the themes addressed seems to be The Nigerian current political experience.

We want to express our gratitude to everyone who made these activities possible, including our sponsors, partners, and volunteers. We are committed to driving positive change through film and are excited to see the impact our work will have in the coming months.

Thank you for your continued support.
